Pench’s lush teak forests, meandering rivers, and diverse wildlife inspired Rudyard Kipling’s timeless classic The Jungle Book. Travelling here feels like stepping into Mowgli’s world, complete with wolves, leopards, and of course, tigers.

The region’s name comes from the Pench River, which flows through it. Historical records and ancient inscriptions mention these forests as hunting grounds for regional kings centuries ago.

Pench is part of India’s Project Tiger reserves and is home to over 40 tigers. The park is known for relatively high sighting chances, especially in summer when big cats come to waterholes.

While tigers steal the limelight, Pench is also home to leopards, wild dogs (dholes), jackals, gaur, sambar deer, langurs, and sloth bears. The park’s biodiversity is staggering.

With over 300 bird species, including Malabar pied hornbills, grey-headed fish eagles, and migratory waterfowl, Pench is as much a haven for bird lovers as it is for big cat enthusiasts.
